READ BOOK Life of George Eliot

From the Author's NOTE.
THIS book could not have been written without constant reference to the "Life and Letters of George Eliot," published by her husband, Mr. John Cross. I have had access to a considerable number of unpublished letters, but I have only thought it desirable to print four of them. Information about the localities described by George Eliot has been drawn partly from Mr. Parkinson's useful book, " George Eliot's Country," and partly from personal knowledge. The last chapter of this work was originally published in the Fortnightly Review, nearly in its present form.
